New shoes!

Just got back from Bob Ronkers run spot and I loved the 30 minute shoe selection process. I ended up with a neutral shoe that has a medium level of cushioning. The salesman (a former XU cross country coach) was knowledgable and actually recommended that I buy the cheaper of the two shoes that we narrowed it down to which I always find to be a commendable since that seems rare these days. Anyways, I just figured I'd share that he actually sized me up 1/2 a size from what I thought I was. The shoes I ended up with are the Brooks Ghost 3.
Training is going pretty great and my confidence level is high but my longest run is 16 so next weekend and the next few weekends, as I get to a couple of 20+ mile runs, will be the biggest test yet. I think pacing myself will be the key because I have the best speed I've ever had in my life right now but no idea how long I can hold it past 16?
Anyways, I hope everyone's training is going well, I just talked with Brad this week and his project is now done so he has more time for running so hopefully he will do the the full!
Jess and I will arrive Friday night and leave Monday afternoon. What's everyone else schedule look like? Lets try to get transportation organized in early January so the stress is minimal for Brad and Charlene.
Happy Anniversary Owens' and Happy late B-day Spen. Hope to see you guys soon!

  1. Thanks for the B-Day wishes, but what I really want to thank you for is the advice on eating/drinking some calories while running. Long run today went great because of that; complete turn around from two weeks ago. I will post more on it later.

Bob Ronker's is great. Got fitted for a shoe there last winter. They told me I was an over-pronator (spelling) and fit me with the extra-support shoe. Ran on it for about a month and it hurt my foot. Took it back and they gave me a complete refund. I told them what I was looking for and they fit me for a pair of Brooks T6. LOVE them. Need to get a new pair because I have almost worn through the soles on this pair. Let me know how that pair of Brooks turns out.

Glad to hear you are tearing up the mileage and pace. Keep it up.

Are we still getting together this weekend for a run? I haven't heard much from anyone about it since the e-mail chain got sent around. Let me know if you (or anyone else) are still planning on it.

  2. Dave thanks for the congrats.

My run this weekend was a bummer. I ran 3 1/2 of the 11 miles I was suppose to do, which stinks. I just felt overly exhausted as soon as I started to run. I just hope it was a change in weather and long week that messed with me. I need to look into getting some new running shoes at some point.

I have hit my 14 and 15 mile runs the previous two weeks, which felt good to complete mileage I've never done or thought about doing. Attitude for runs is very key. This weekend I know I am in gear for a 16-17 mile run according to our training schedule. Are we still planning on this?
