Well, this weekend was a new milestone. I got out yesterday morning and ran 14 miles. Didn't think I was going to be able to get it in before the Columbus half, but got my butt out of bed before the sun rose and ran in the chilly morning air. Although 14 is not even a mile more than my previous best (13.1), it felt good to break through that wall and get over the half marathon distance.
One piece of advice is to tape up the nipples. I usually Vaseline before I run, and yesterday I didn't Vaseline or tape the nipples. With about a mile left in my run, my right nipple was screaming. Thankfully, there was no blood, but it is mighty sore still today.
Hope everyone is getting through this heat wave. I know that I run much better in cooler weather, so hopefully this is out before next weekend for the race.

Birch,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have broken through a wall. Let me know when you are coming up to Columbus and need a place to stay.
Also, I couldn't be dreading this weekend any more right now. I strained my left quad and it kills when I run. I had to shut it down on my long run Saturday and only got to the 5 mile mark. I haven't done any running this week, because it is something that needs rest to heal. Sunday will be interesting to say the least

That sucks about your leg. See if you can get into someone like Steve Adams before the race.
ReplyDeleteAs for staying the night, I am still unsure; still waiting to hear back from the guy who is volunteering at a water station to see if he and his friend are coming up with me. If they do come up with me, I will probably just stay at home in Marion due to space. If they do not come up with me I will most likely stay at your place. I will give you a ring tomorrow or Friday once I have figured out the details. Get that leg better man!
